Today I went to PC World. As a result of a misunderstanding with regards to what came included with my laptop when I bought it, they gave me a 10% discount on a lightscribe drive (lightscribe = 3 minutes of pure unadulterated childish excitement for every half hour of waiting for semi-geeks like me). And – this is where I become just a little strange – once I’d picked one out, I couldn’t make myself go back to the service desk and ask for the 10% discount on the drive. Yes, that may be a little weird (or a lot) but I have a bit of a nervous disposition when it comes to matters of talking to strangers in certain situations (you should see the things I do to avoid making necessary phone calls!).
Fortunately, bf was there to return to the counter and process the actual purchase, while I tried my hands at the drumkit in the new rockband game. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a shrinking violet by any measures, but this pitiful moment in my life is just one in a string of stupid things that I’m scared to do.
So I’ve decided to break my mould and try a few things to help me do just that.
I’m going to set myself monthly challenges. I don’t know yet what I’ll do but since there are only 10 days left this month I thought I’d start with something I can’t see myself continuing for long. It’s hardly original, but I‘m going to say yes to everything for the rest of this month.
I did set this blog up about 5 hours ago. It’s taken me this long to get around to writing anything because I started saying yes as soon as I set up the blog.
Saying yes has so far subjected me to a chinese takeaway, one enthralling episode of “Don’t Forget The Lyrics”, the latest “Top Gear” episode, a “Big Brother” catchup and far too many puffs of a joint. Hell, I’ve just dragged myself from a near encounter with TV-enduced evening dozing to come back and write all this. I must admit, I thought saying yes would prove to be a little more eventful.
Challenge summary and rules to follow…
